Gum grafting
Herriott Street Dental – Restorative Gum Grafting
When gums recede from the teeth, it opens the door for harmful bacteria to infiltrate, potentially leading to significant oral health issues. At Herriott Street Dental, we offer gum grafting procedures designed to address this problem by strengthening and restoring receding gums. This treatment effectively covers exposed tooth roots, reduces tooth sensitivity, and minimizes the risk of further gum recession or bone loss. Opting for gum grafting can result in improved oral health, an enhanced smile, and increased self-assurance.
Understanding Gum Recession:
Several factors can contribute to gum recession, including:
- Thin gum tissue
- Misaligned teeth
- Plaque buildup
- Aggressive brushing or using a hard-bristled brush
- Natural aging
- Genetic predisposition
Gum Grafting Solutions
To combat gum recession, we offer several solutions:
- Gingival Graft: Utilizing adjacent gum tissue for repair, although the extent of repair is limited by the availability of healthy tissue.
- Autograft: Using tissue from the roof of the mouth for grafting.
- AlloDerm: Introduced in 1994, this product was initially developed for burn victims and has since been used for gum grafting procedures.
Post Operative Care
After a gum grafting procedure, we provide the patient, along with a family member or another responsible party, with precise post-operative instructions. We also schedule follow-up visits and provide an emergency contact number.
